    The Lord said to Moses,

  12. “This is the service of the Gershonite clans in their carrying and their other work:
  13. the curtains of the courtyard surrounding the tabernacle and altar, the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard, the ropes and all the equipment used in the service of the tent. The Gershonites are to do all that needs to be done with these things.
  14. This is the service of the Gershonite clans at the tent of meeting. Their duties are to be under the direction of Ithamar son of Aaron, the priest.
  15. The Gershonites were counted by their clans and families.
  16. This was the total of those in the Gershonite clans who served at the tent of meeting. Moses and Aaron counted them according to the Lord’s command.
  17. He gave two carts and four oxen to the Gershonites, as their work required,
  18. Then the tabernacle was taken down, and the Gershonites and Merarites, who carried it, set out.
  19. These were the Levites who were counted by their clans: through Gershon, the Gershonite clan; through Kohath, the Kohathite clan; through Merari, the Merarite clan.
  20. The descendants of Gershon were allotted thirteen towns from the clans of the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.
  21. The Levite clans of the Gershonites were given: from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan (a city of refuge for one accused of murder) and Be Eshterah, together with their pasturelands—two towns;
  22. The total number of towns of the Gershonite clans came to thirteen, together with their pasturelands.
