3 О, ви нерозумні галати! Хто вас звів не коритися правді, вас, яким перед очима Ісус Христос переднакреслений був, як ніби між вами розп'ятий?
2 Це одне хочу знати від вас: чи ви прийняли Духа ділами Закону, чи із проповіді про віру?
3 Чи ж ви аж такі нерозумні? Духом почавши, кінчите тепер тілом?
4 Чи ви так багато терпіли надармо? Коли б тільки надармо!
5 Отже, Той, Хто вам Духа дає й чуда чинить між вами, чи чинить ділами Закону, чи із проповіді про віру?
6 Так як Авраам був увірував в Бога, і це залічено за праведність йому.
7 Тож знайте, що ті, хто від віри, то сини Авраамові.
8 І Писання, передбачивши, що вірою Бог виправдає поган, благовістило Авраамові: Благословляться в тобі всі народи!
9 Тому ті, хто від віри, будуть поблагословлені з вірним Авраамом.
10 А всі ті, хто на діла Закону покладається, вони під прокляттям. Бо написано: Проклятий усякий, хто не триває в усьому, що написано в книзі Закону, щоб чинити оте!
11 А що перед Богом Законом ніхто не виправдується, то це ясно, бо праведний житиме вірою.
12 А Закон не від віри, але хто чинитиме те, той житиме ним.
13 Христос відкупив нас від прокляття Закону, ставши прокляттям за нас, бо написано: Проклятий усякий, хто висить на дереві,
14 щоб Авраамове благословення в Ісусі Христі поширилося на поган, щоб обітницю Духа прийняти нам вірою.
15 Браття, кажу я по-людському: навіть людського затвердженого заповіту ніхто не відкидає та до нього не додає.
16 А обітниці дані були Авраамові й насінню його. Не говориться: і насінням, як про багатьох, але як про одного: і Насінню твоєму, яке є Христос.
17 А я кажу це, що заповіту, від Бога затвердженого, Закон, що прийшов по чотириста тридцяти роках, не відкидає, щоб обітницю він зруйнував.
18 Бо коли від Закону спадщина, то вже не з обітниці; Авраамові ж Бог дарував із обітниці.
19 Що ж Закон? Він був даний з причини переступів, аж поки прийде Насіння, якому обітниця дана була; він учинений був Анголами рукою посередника.
20 Але посередник не є для одного, Бог же один.
21 Отож, чи ж Закон проти Божих обітниць? Зовсім ні! Якби бо був даний Закон, щоб він міг оживляти, то праведність справді була б від Закону!
22 Та все зачинило Писання під гріх, щоб віруючим була дана обітниця з віри в Ісуса Христа.
23 Але поки прийшла віра, під Законом стережено нас, замкнених до приходу віри, що мала об'явитись.
24 Тому то Закон виховником був до Христа, щоб нам виправдатися вірою.
25 А як віра прийшла, то вже ми не під виховником.
26 Бо ви всі сини Божі через віру в Христа Ісуса!
27 Бо ви всі, що в Христа охристилися, у Христа зодягнулися!
28 Нема юдея, ні грека, нема раба, ані вільного, нема чоловічої статі, ані жіночої, бо всі ви один у Христі Ісусі!
29 А коли ви Христові, то ви Авраамове насіння й за обітницею спадкоємці.

Благословення Боже приходить через віру
3 О нерозумні галати! Хтось зачарував вас, хоча на ваших очах Христа проголосили розіп’ятим! 2 Лише одне я хочу дізнатися від вас: чи одержали ви Дух Святий, дотримуючись Закону, чи слухаючи Добру Звістку і повіривши в неї. 3 Чи ви вже такі нерозумні, що життя, яке почали з Духом Святим, зараз намагаєтеся закінчити людськими зусиллями? 4 Невже ви стільки вистраждали—і даремно? Сподіваюся, що ні! 5 Хіба Бог, Який дарує вам Духа Святого і творить чудеса серед вас, робить усе це через те, що ви дотримуєтеся Закону? Чи може через те, що ви слухали Добру Звістку і повірили в неї?
6 У Святому Писанні сказано про Авраама: «Він повірив у Бога, і був цим виправданий перед Ним»(A). 7 Вам слід знати, що ті, хто має віру, є справжніми нащадками Авраамовими. 8 У Святому Писанні передрікалося, що Бог виправдає поган завдяки їхній вірі. Він перший виявив Авраамові Добру Звістку: «Всі народи благословенними будуть через тебе»(B). 9 Тож усі, хто вірить, благословенні разом з Авраамом, який повірив.
10 А хто залежить від Закону, той під прокляттям. Бо як сказано у Святому Писанні: «Прокляті ті, хто не дотримується всього написаного в книзі Закону»(C). 11 Тож зрозуміло, що нікого не буде виправдано перед Богом через Закон, бо як сказано у Святому Писанні: «Праведний житиме вічно вірою в Господа»(D).
12 Закон не оснований на вірі. Навпаки. Як сказано у Святому Писанні: «Для тих, хто під Законом, існує лише один спосіб успадкувати життя: дотримуватися й виконувати усі його заповіді»[a]. 13 Христос звільнив нас від прокляття Закону, взявши прокляття наше на Себе, бо як сказано у Святому Писанні: «Проклятий кожен, хто висить на дереві»(E). 14 Христос звільнив нас, щоб благословення Авраамове було дароване поганам через Ісуса Христа, щоб через віру ми отримали обітницю Духа.
Закон і обітниця
15 Браття і сестри, хочу навести вам приклад із повсякденного життя: ніхто не може ні скасувати угоду між людьми, ні додати щось до неї або ухилятися її після того, як вона була затверджена. 16 Авраамові та його нащадкові[b] були дані обітниці. У Писанні не сказано «його нащадкам», як багатьом людям, а одній людині—«і Нащадкові твоєму», яким є Христос. 17 Ось що я маю на увазі: Закон, що з’явився чотириста тридцять років по тому, не міг скасувати Угоди, яка була підтверджена Богом. Отже, Закон не міг скасувати цю обітницю.
18 Тож якби благословення Боже залежало від Закону, то не було б воно засновано на обітниці. Бог же дарував його Авраамові через обітницю.
19 Навіщо ж тоді Закон? Його було дано щоб викрити гріхи, які коїли люди. Він діяв, поки не прийде від Господа саме Той Нащадок Авраама, Якому й була дана обітниця. Закон було проголошено через Ангелів з допомогою Мойсея як посередника. 20 Але ж коли Всевишній дав Свої обітниці, Він зробив це без посередників, бо не потрібні посередники там, де усього одна сторона. Та Бог—єдиний!
Призначення Мойсеєвого Закону
21 Чи означає це, що Закон діє проти Божих обітниць? Звісно, ні! Бо якби було даровано Закон, що міг би давати людям нове життя, то праведність Божа прийшла б від цього Закону. 22 Але Святе Писання проголосило, що весь світ перебуває під владою гріха. Отже, обітниця може бути дана вірою тільки тим, хто вірить[c] в Ісуса Христа.
23 До приходу цієї віри ми були під охороною Закону—у в’язниці, аж доки не настав час, коли Господь відкрив нам шлях віри. 24 Тож Закон був нашим охоронцем й захисником, та мав привести нас до Христа, щоб ми змогли виправдатися перед Богом вірою своєю. 25 А зараз, коли ця віра прийшла, ми більш не потребуємо, щоб Закон був нашим охоронцем.
26 Усі ви—Божі діти через віру в Ісуса Христа. 27 Бо усі, хто хрестилися в Христі, в Христа одяглися. 28 Тож немає різниці між юдеєм і поганином, рабом і вільною людиною, чоловіком і жінкою, бо всі ви—єдині в Ісусі Христі. 29 І якщо ви належите Христу, то ви—Авраамові нащадки і спадкоємці, згідно з обітницею, даною Авраамові Богом.

Faith or Works of the Law
3 You foolish(A) Galatians!(B) Who has bewitched you?(C) Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified.(D) 2 I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit(E) by the works of the law,(F) or by believing what you heard?(G) 3 Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?[a] 4 Have you experienced[b] so much in vain—if it really was in vain? 5 So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles(H) among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard?(I) 6 So also Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”[c](J)
7 Understand, then, that those who have faith(K) are children of Abraham.(L) 8 Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.”[d](M) 9 So those who rely on faith(N) are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.(O)
10 For all who rely on the works of the law(P) are under a curse,(Q) as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”[e](R) 11 Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God,(S) because “the righteous will live by faith.”[f](T) 12 The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, it says, “The person who does these things will live by them.”[g](U) 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law(V) by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.”[h](W) 14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus,(X) so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.(Y)
The Law and the Promise
15 Brothers and sisters,(Z) let me take an example from everyday life. Just as no one can set aside or add to a human covenant that has been duly established, so it is in this case. 16 The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed.(AA) Scripture does not say “and to seeds,” meaning many people, but “and to your seed,”[i](AB) meaning one person, who is Christ. 17 What I mean is this: The law, introduced 430 years(AC) later, does not set aside the covenant previously established by God and thus do away with the promise. 18 For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on the promise;(AD) but God in his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise.
19 Why, then, was the law given at all? It was added because of transgressions(AE) until the Seed(AF) to whom the promise referred had come. The law was given through angels(AG) and entrusted to a mediator.(AH) 20 A mediator,(AI) however, implies more than one party; but God is one.
21 Is the law, therefore, opposed to the promises of God? Absolutely not!(AJ) For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come by the law.(AK) 22 But Scripture has locked up everything under the control of sin,(AL) so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.
Children of God
23 Before the coming of this faith,[j] we were held in custody(AM) under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed.(AN) 24 So the law was our guardian until Christ came(AO) that we might be justified by faith.(AP) 25 Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.(AQ)
26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God(AR) through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ(AS) have clothed yourselves with Christ.(AT) 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free,(AU) nor is there male and female,(AV) for you are all one in Christ Jesus.(AW) 29 If you belong to Christ,(AX) then you are Abraham’s seed,(AY) and heirs(AZ) according to the promise.(BA)

3 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?
2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.
5 He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.
8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.
9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.
10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.
13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.
16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.
19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.
21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
