21 Dearly beloved, if our heart do not reprehend us, we have confidence towards God:
22 And whatsoever we shall ask, we shall receive of him: because we keep his commandments, and do those things which are pleasing in his sight.
23 And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ: and love one another, as he hath given commandment unto us.
24 And he that keepeth his commandments, abideth in him, and he in him. And in this we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
4 Dearly beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits if they be of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 By this is the spirit of God known. Every spirit which confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh, is of God:
3 And every spirit that dissolveth Jesus, is not of God: and this is Antichrist, of whom you have heard that he cometh, and he is now already in the world.
4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome him. Because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5 They are of the world: therefore of the world they speak, and the world heareth them.
6 We are of God. He that knoweth God, heareth us. He that is not of God, heareth us not. By this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
7 Dearly beloved, let us love one another, for charity is of God. And every one that loveth, is born of God, and knoweth God.
8 He that loveth not, knoweth not God: for God is charity.
9 By this hath the charity of God appeared towards us, because God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we may live by him.
10 In this is charity: not as though we had loved God, but because he hath first loved us, and sent his Son to be a propitiation for our sins.
11 My dearest, if God hath so loved us; we also ought to love one another.

21 Dear friends,(A) if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God(B) 22 and receive from him anything we ask,(C) because we keep his commands(D) and do what pleases him.(E) 23 And this is his command: to believe(F) in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ,(G) and to love one another as he commanded us.(H) 24 The one who keeps God’s commands(I) lives in him,(J) and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.(K)
On Denying the Incarnation
4 Dear friends,(L) do not believe every spirit,(M) but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.(N) 2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh(O) is from God,(P) 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist,(Q) which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.(R)
4 You, dear children,(S) are from God and have overcome them,(T) because the one who is in you(U) is greater than the one who is in the world.(V) 5 They are from the world(W) and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us.(X) This is how we recognize the Spirit[a] of truth(Y) and the spirit of falsehood.(Z)
God’s Love and Ours
7 Dear friends, let us love one another,(AA) for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God(AB) and knows God.(AC) 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.(AD) 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son(AE) into the world that we might live through him.(AF) 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us(AG) and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.(AH) 11 Dear friends,(AI) since God so loved us,(AJ) we also ought to love one another.(AK)
