1 Thessalonians 2:14-20

¹⁴For you, brethren, are become followers of the churches of God which are in Judea, in Christ Jesus: for you also have suffered the same things from your own coutrymen, even as they have from the Jews,

¹⁵Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and the prophets, and have persecuted us, and please not God, and are adversaries to all men;

¹⁶Prohibiting us to speak to the Gentiles, that they may be saved, to fill up their sins always: for the wrath of God is come upon them to the end.

¹⁷But we, brethren, being taken away from you for a short time, in sight, not in heart, have hastened the more abundantly to see your face with great desire.

¹⁸For we would have come unto you, I Paul indeed, once and again: but Satan hath hindered us.

¹⁹For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of glory? Are not you, in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?

²⁰For you are our glory and joy.

¹⁴For you, brothers and sisters, became imitators^(A) of God’s churches in Judea,^(B) which are in Christ Jesus: You suffered from your own people^(C) the same things those churches suffered from the Jews ¹⁵who killed the Lord Jesus^(D) and the prophets^(E) and also drove us out. They displease God and are hostile to everyone ¹⁶in their effort to keep us from speaking to the Gentiles^(F) so that they may be saved. In this way they always heap up their sins to the limit.^(G) The wrath of God has come upon them at last.^[a]

Paul’s Longing to See the Thessalonians

¹⁷But, brothers and sisters, when we were orphaned by being separated from you for a short time (in person, not in thought),^(H) out of our intense longing we made every effort to see you.^(I) ¹⁸For we wanted to come to you—certainly I, Paul, did, again and again—but Satan^(J) blocked our way.^(K) ¹⁹For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown^(L) in which we will glory^(M) in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes?^(N) Is it not you? ²⁰Indeed, you are our glory^(O) and joy.
