³⁵ I will raise up for myself a faithful priest,^(A) who will do according to what is in my heart and mind. I will firmly establish his priestly house, and they will minister before my anointed^(B) one always.

⁹ Then Samuel^(A) took a suckling lamb and sacrificed it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord. He cried out to the Lord on Israel’s behalf, and the Lord answered him.^(B)

¹⁰ While Samuel was sacrificing the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to engage Israel in battle. But that day the Lord thundered^(A) with loud thunder against the Philistines and threw them into such a panic^(B) that they were routed before the Israelites.

⁸ He waited seven^(A) days, the time set by Samuel; but Samuel did not come to Gilgal, and Saul’s men began to scatter. ⁹ So he said, “Bring me the burnt offering and the fellowship offerings.” And Saul offered^(B) up the burnt offering. ¹⁰ Just as he finished making the offering, Samuel^(C) arrived, and Saul went out to greet^(D) him.

¹⁶ Then the Lord raised up judges,^[a](A) who saved^(B) them out of the hands of these raiders.
