²¹ But they conspired against him and stoned him at the king’s command in the courtyard of the Lord’s temple.^(A)

¹² Be glad and rejoice, because your reward is great in heaven. For that is how they persecuted^(A) the prophets who were before you.^(B)

³⁴ This is why I am sending you prophets,^(A) sages, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues^(B) and hound from town to town.

⁵² Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute?^(A) They even killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers^(B) you have now become.

¹⁵ who killed both the Lord Jesus^(A) and the prophets and persecuted us;^(B) they displease God and are hostile to everyone,

³⁶ and others experienced mockings and scourgings, as well as bonds and imprisonment.^{(A) 37} They were stoned,^[a](B) they were sawed in two, they died by the sword, they wandered about in sheepskins, in goatskins,^(C) destitute, afflicted, and mistreated.
