¹¹ when all Israel comes to ^(A)appear before the Lord your God in the ^(B)place which He chooses, ^(C)you shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing.

^12 (A)Gather the people together, men and women and little ones, and the stranger who is within your gates, that they may hear and that they may learn to fear the Lord your God and carefully observe all the words of this law,

² The king went up to the house of the Lord with all the men of Judah, and with him all the inhabitants of Jerusalem—the priests and the prophets and all the people, both small and great. And he ^(A)read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant ^(B)which had been found in the house of the Lord.

³ Then he ^(A)read from it in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate ^[a]from morning until midday, before the men and women and those who could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive to the Book of the Law.

⁸ So they read distinctly from the book, in the Law of God; and they gave the sense, and helped them to understand the reading.

³ And they stood up in their place and ^(A)read from the Book of the Law of the Lord their God for one-fourth of the day; and for another fourth they confessed and worshiped the Lord their God.
