Nádej pre kazdého
Ježišova odpoveď Jánovi Krstiteľovi
11 Keď Ježiš odovzdal pokyny svojim dvanástim učeníkom, pobral sa učiť a kázať v tamojších mestách.
2 Ján Krstiteľ, ktorý bol práve vo väzení, dopočul sa o Ježišovej činnosti. Poslal za ním svojich dvoch žiakov
3 a tí sa ho spýtali: Si ty naozaj sľúbený Spasiteľ, alebo máme čakať iného?"
4 Ježiš im odpovedal: Vráťte sa k Jánovi a vyrozprávajte mu, čo ste videli a počuli:
5 Slepí vidia, chromí chodia, malomocní sú uzdravení, hluchí počujú, mŕtvi sa prebúdzajú k životu. A povedzte mu, že beznádejným ľuďom prinášam radostnú zvesť, že Boh ráta aj s nimi.
6 Šťastní sú tí, ktorí o mne nepochybujú."
7 Keď Jánovi žiaci odišli, Ježiš hovoril o ňom zástupu: Keď ste šli za Jánom na púšť, čo ste chceli uvidieť? Trstinu zmietanú vetrom?
8 Alebo človeka vyobliekaného do drahých šiat ako princa v paláci?
9 Prečo ste teda šli za ním? Chceli ste vidieť proroka? Áno, ubezpečujem vás, on je ešte viac ako prorok.
10 To o ňom je napísané: Posielam svojho posla, ktorý ohlási tvoj príchod a pripraví ti cestu k ľudským srdciam.
11 Naozaj, medzi všetkými ľuďmi, ktorí sa kedy narodili, niet nikoho, kto by svojím poslaním prevyšoval Jána Krstiteľa, a predsa i ten najmenší v nebeskom kráľovstve je väčší ako on.
12 Od čias Jána Krstiteľa je nebeské kráľovstvo vystavené násiliu a zmocňujú sa ho násilníci.
13 Lebo všetci proroci aj Zákon až po Jána Krstiteľa to predpovedali.
14 A ak to chcete pochopiť, on je Eliáš, o ktorom nám prorok zvestoval, že príde vtedy, keď sa kráľovstvo začne.
15 Kto má uši, nech počuje!
16 K čomu mám prirovnať túto generáciu? Je ako hrajúce sa deti, ktoré sedia na námestí a nespokojne pokrikujú na svojich kamarátov:
17 Zahrali sme vám, ale netancovali ste, smutne sme vám spievali, ale neplakali ste.
18 Prišiel Ján, nepil, nejedol -- a pokladali ho za fanatika.
19 Prišiel som ja, Syn človeka, jem aj pijem -- a vyčítajú mi, že som žrút a pijan vína, priateľ hriešnikov a najväčšej spodiny. Ale múdrosť ospravedlňujú jej skutky."
Výstraha a pozvanie
20 Vtedy začal Ježiš karhať mestá, ktoré boli svedkami jeho mnohých zázrakov, a predsa nerobili pokánie:
21 Beda ti, Korozaim, beda ti, Betsaida! Keby som bol v Týre a Sidone urobil také zázraky ako u vás, ich obyvatelia by už dávno robili pokánie a prejavili by najhlbšiu ľútosť nad svojimi vinami.
22 Preto vám hovorím, že Týru a Sidonu bude ľahšie v deň súdu ako vám.
23 A ty, Kafarnaum, myslíš, že tvoja sláva vyrastie až po nebo? Zrútiš sa do priepasti večného zahynutia! Keby som bol v Sodome urobil také zázraky ako u vás, stála by dodnes.
24 Znova vám hovorím, že sodomskej krajine bude ľahšie v deň súdu ako tebe!"
25 Vtedy sa Ježiš modlil: Velebím ťa, Otče, Pán neba aj zeme, že pravdu skrývaš pred tými, ktorí sa pokladajú za múdrych a učených, a zjavuješ ju bezvýznamným a prostým.
26 Áno, Otče, tak sa ti to páči."
27 Otec mi zveril všetko. Len Otec pozná Syna a Otca pozná iba Syn a tí, ktorým ho Syn zjaví.
28 Poďte ku mne všetci, ktorí sa namáhate a ste unavení, nájdete u mňa pokoj a úľavu.
29 Vezmite na seba moje jarmo a učte sa odo mňa, lebo mám tiché a pokorné srdce. U mňa nájdete mier a odpočinutie pre svoju dušu.
30 Veď moje jarmo netlačí a bremeno neťaží."

Jesus and John the Baptist(A)
11 After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples,(B) he went on from there to teach and preach in the towns of Galilee.[a]
2 When John,(C) who was in prison,(D) heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he sent his disciples 3 to ask him, “Are you the one who is to come,(E) or should we expect someone else?”
4 Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: 5 The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy[b] are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.(F) 6 Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.”(G)
7 As John’s(H) disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness(I) to see? A reed swayed by the wind? 8 If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces. 9 Then what did you go out to see? A prophet?(J) Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 10 This is the one about whom it is written:
11 Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence,[d] and violent people have been raiding it. 13 For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John.(M) 14 And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come.(N) 15 Whoever has ears, let them hear.(O)
16 “To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:
17 “‘We played the pipe for you,
and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge,
and you did not mourn.’
18 For John came neither eating(P) nor drinking,(Q) and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’(R) But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.”
Woe on Unrepentant Towns(S)
20 Then Jesus began to denounce the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. 21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida!(T) For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon,(U) they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.(V) 22 But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.(W) 23 And you, Capernaum,(X) will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades.[e](Y) For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. 24 But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”(Z)
The Father Revealed in the Son(AA)
25 At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father,(AB) Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.(AC) 26 Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
27 “All things have been committed to me(AD) by my Father.(AE) No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.(AF)
28 “Come to me,(AG) all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.(AH) 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,(AI) for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.(AJ) 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”(AK)
