Now he was dwelling by the [b](B)oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner, and these were [c](C)in a covenant with Abram. 14 So Abram heard that (D)his [d]relative had been taken captive, and he [e]led out his trained men, (E)born in his house, 318 in number, and went in pursuit as far as (F)Dan. 15 (G)And he divided [f]his men against them by night, he and his servants, and struck them and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is [g]north of (H)Damascus.

13 A man who had escaped came and reported this to Abram the Hebrew.(A) Now Abram was living near the great trees of Mamre(B) the Amorite, a brother[a] of Eshkol(C) and Aner, all of whom were allied with Abram. 14 When Abram heard that his relative(D) had been taken captive, he called out the 318 trained(E) men born in his household(F) and went in pursuit as far as Dan.(G) 15 During the night Abram divided his men(H) to attack them and he routed them, pursuing them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus.(I)
