¹² See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.^{(A) 13} But encourage one another daily,^(B) as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.^{(C) 14} We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold^(D) our original conviction firmly to the very end.^{(E) 15} As has just been said:

¹⁶ Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt?^{(G) 17} And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies perished in the wilderness?^{(H) 18} And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest^(I) if not to those who disobeyed?^{(J) 19} So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.^(K)

⁹ There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; ¹⁰ for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works,^[a](A) just as God did from his.^{(B) 11} Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.^(C)

¹² For the word of God^(D) is alive^(E) and active.^(F) Sharper than any double-edged sword,^(G) it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.^{(H) 13} Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight.^(I) Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Jesus the Great High Priest

¹⁴ Therefore, since we have a great high priest^(J) who has ascended into heaven,^[b](K) Jesus the Son of God,^(L) let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.^{(M) 15} For we do not have a high priest^(N) who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are^(O)—yet he did not sin.^{(P) 16} Let us then approach^(Q) God’s throne of grace with confidence,^(R) so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
