7 But only the high priest could go into the second room, and he went in only once a year. Also, he could never enter that room without taking blood with him. He offered that blood to God for himself and for the sins the people committed without knowing they were sinning.
8 The Holy Spirit uses those two separate rooms to teach us that the way into the Most Holy Place[a] was not open while the first room was still there. 9 This is an example for us today. It shows that the gifts and sacrifices the priests offer to God are not able to make the consciences of the worshipers completely clear.

7 But only the high priest entered(A) the inner room,(B) and that only once a year,(C) and never without blood,(D) which he offered for himself(E) and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance.(F) 8 The Holy Spirit was showing(G) by this that the way(H) into the Most Holy Place had not yet been disclosed as long as the first tabernacle was still functioning. 9 This is an illustration(I) for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered(J) were not able to clear the conscience(K) of the worshiper.
