Babylon Destroyed

22 “For I will rise up against them,” says the Lord of hosts,
“And cut off from Babylon (A)the name and (B)remnant,
(C)And offspring and posterity,” says the Lord.
23 “I will also make it a possession for the (D)porcupine,
And marshes of muddy water;
I will sweep it with the broom of destruction,” says the Lord of hosts.

Assyria Destroyed

24 The Lord of hosts has sworn, saying,
“Surely, as I have thought, so it shall come to pass,
And as I have purposed, so it shall (E)stand:
25 That I will break the (F)Assyrian in My land,
And on My mountains tread him underfoot.
Then (G)his yoke shall be removed from them,
And his burden removed from their shoulders.
26 This is the (H)purpose that is purposed against the whole earth,
And this is the hand that is stretched out over all the nations.
27 For the Lord of hosts has (I)purposed,
And who will annul it?
His hand is stretched out,
And who will turn it back?”

“I will wipe out Babylon’s name(B) and survivors,
    her offspring and descendants,(C)
declares the Lord.
23 “I will turn her into a place for owls(D)
    and into swampland;
I will sweep her with the broom of destruction,(E)
    declares the Lord Almighty.(F)

24 The Lord Almighty has sworn,(G)

“Surely, as I have planned,(H) so it will be,
    and as I have purposed, so it will happen.(I)
25 I will crush the Assyrian(J) in my land;
    on my mountains I will trample him down.
His yoke(K) will be taken from my people,
    and his burden removed from their shoulders.(L)

26 This is the plan(M) determined for the whole world;
    this is the hand(N) stretched out over all nations.
27 For the Lord Almighty has purposed,(O) and who can thwart him?
    His hand(P) is stretched out, and who can turn it back?(Q)
