The New Covenant

³¹^(A)“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make ^(B)a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, ³²not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when ^(C)I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, ^(D)though I was their husband, declares the Lord. ³³^(E)For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: ^(F)I will put my law within them, and I will write it ^(G)on their hearts. ^(H)And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. ³⁴And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ ^(I)for they shall all know me, ^(J)from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For ^(K)I will forgive their iniquity, and ^(L)I will remember their sin no more.”

God Is Our Fortress

46 God is our ^(C)refuge and strength,
    a very ^(D)present^[b] help in ^(E)trouble.
²Therefore we will not fear ^(F)though the earth gives way,
    though the mountains be moved into ^(G)the heart of the sea,
³though ^(H)its waters roar and foam,
    though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah

⁴There is ^(I)a river whose streams make glad ^(J)the city of God,
    the holy ^(K)habitation of the Most High.
⁵^(L)God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;
    God will help her when morning dawns.
⁶^(M)The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
    he ^(N)utters his voice, the earth ^(O)melts.
⁷^(P)The Lord of hosts is with us;

¹⁹Now we know that whatever ^(A)the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, ^(B)so that every mouth may be stopped, and ^(C)the whole world may be held accountable to God. ²⁰For ^(D)by works of the law no human being^[a] will be justified in his sight, since ^(E)through the law comes knowledge of sin.

The Righteousness of God Through Faith

²¹But now ^(F)the righteousness of God ^(G)has been manifested apart from the law, although ^(H)the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— ²²the righteousness of God ^(I)through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. ^(J)For there is no distinction: ²³for ^(K)all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, ²⁴^(L)and are justified ^(M)by his grace as a gift, ^(N)through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, ²⁵whom God ^(O)put forward as ^(P)a propitiation ^(Q)by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in ^(R)his divine forbearance he had passed over ^(S)former sins. ²⁶It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

²⁷^(T)Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith. ²⁸For we hold that one is justified by faith ^(U)apart from works of the law.

The Truth Will Set You Free

³¹So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, ^(A)“If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, ³²and you will ^(B)know the truth, and the truth ^(C)will set you free.” ³³They answered him, ^(D)“We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?”

³⁴Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(E)everyone who practices sin is a slave^[a] to sin. ³⁵^(F)The slave does not remain in the house forever; ^(G)the son remains forever. ³⁶So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
