⁴ How long will the land mourn^(A)
and the grass of every field wither?
Because of the evil of its residents,
animals and birds have been swept away,^(B)
for the people have said,
“He cannot see what our end will be.”^[a](C)

The Lord roars^(A) from Zion
and makes his voice heard from Jerusalem;
the pastures of the shepherds mourn,^[a](B)
and the summit of Carmel^(C) withers.
