⁵¹He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation,

⁵¹And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;

¹³and brought him first to Annas, who was the father-in-law of Caiaphas,^(A) the high priest that year.

¹³And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.

¹⁴Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jewish leaders that it would be good if one man died for the people.^(A)

¹⁴Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
