He will stand and shepherd his flock(A)
    in the strength of the Lord,
    in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God.
And they will live securely, for then his greatness(B)
    will reach to the ends of the earth.

And he will be our peace(C)
    when the Assyrians invade(D) our land
    and march through our fortresses.
We will raise against them seven shepherds,
    even eight commanders,(E)

18 The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless(A) 19 (for the law made nothing perfect),(B) and a better hope(C) is introduced, by which we draw near to God.(D)

20 And it was not without an oath! Others became priests without any oath, 21 but he became a priest with an oath when God said to him:

“The Lord has sworn
    and will not change his mind:(E)
    ‘You are a priest forever.’”[a](F)

22 Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantor of a better covenant.(G)

23 Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; 24 but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood.(H) 25 Therefore he is able to save(I) completely[b] those who come to God(J) through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.(K)

26 Such a high priest(L) truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners,(M) exalted above the heavens.(N) 27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices(O) day after day, first for his own sins,(P) and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all(Q) when he offered himself.(R) 28 For the law appoints as high priests men in all their weakness;(S) but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son,(T) who has been made perfect(U) forever.
