¹⁷O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted;
you will ^(A)strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear

¹⁷You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted;^(A)
you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,^(B)

¹⁸to ^(A)do justice to the fatherless and ^(B)the oppressed,
so that ^(C)man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.

¹⁸defending the fatherless^(A) and the oppressed,^(B)
so that mere earthly mortals
will never again strike terror.
