Job 42 - Psalm 24

Job

42 Then Job replied to the Lord:

“I know that you can do all things;(A)
    no purpose of yours can be thwarted.(B)
You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’(C)
    Surely I spoke of things I did not understand,
    things too wonderful for me to know.(D)

“You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak;
    I will question you,
    and you shall answer me.’(E)
My ears had heard of you(F)
    but now my eyes have seen you.(G)
Therefore I despise myself(H)
    and repent(I) in dust and ashes.”(J)

Epilogue

After the Lord had said these things to Job(K), he said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “I am angry with you and your two friends,(L) because you have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has.(M) So now take seven bulls and seven rams(N) and go to my servant Job(O) and sacrifice a burnt offering(P) for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer(Q) and not deal with you according to your folly.(R) You have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has.”(S) So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite(T) did what the Lord told them; and the Lord accepted Job’s prayer.(U)

10 After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes(V) and gave him twice as much as he had before.(W) 11 All his brothers and sisters and everyone who had known him before(X) came and ate with him in his house. They comforted and consoled him over all the trouble the Lord had brought on him,(Y) and each one gave him a piece of silver[a] and a gold ring.

12 The Lord blessed the latter part of Job’s life more than the former part. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand donkeys. 13 And he also had seven sons and three daughters. 14 The first daughter he named Jemimah, the second Keziah and the third Keren-Happuch. 15 Nowhere in all the land were there found women as beautiful as Job’s daughters, and their father granted them an inheritance along with their brothers.

16 After this, Job lived a hundred and forty years; he saw his children and their children to the fourth generation. 17 And so Job died, an old man and full of years.(Z)

BOOK I

Psalms 1–41

Psalm 1

Blessed is the one(AA)
    who does not walk(AB) in step with the wicked(AC)
or stand in the way(AD) that sinners take(AE)
    or sit(AF) in the company of mockers,(AG)
but whose delight(AH) is in the law of the Lord,(AI)
    and who meditates(AJ) on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree(AK) planted by streams(AL) of water,(AM)
    which yields its fruit(AN) in season
and whose leaf(AO) does not wither—
    whatever they do prospers.(AP)

Not so the wicked!
    They are like chaff(AQ)
    that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand(AR) in the judgment,(AS)
    nor sinners in the assembly(AT) of the righteous.

For the Lord watches over(AU) the way of the righteous,
    but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.(AV)

Psalm 2

Why do the nations conspire[b]
    and the peoples plot(AW) in vain?
The kings(AX) of the earth rise up
    and the rulers band together
    against the Lord and against his anointed,(AY) saying,
“Let us break their chains(AZ)
    and throw off their shackles.”(BA)

The One enthroned(BB) in heaven laughs;(BC)
    the Lord scoffs at them.
He rebukes them in his anger(BD)
    and terrifies them in his wrath,(BE) saying,
“I have installed my king(BF)
    on Zion,(BG) my holy mountain.(BH)

I will proclaim the Lord’s decree:

He said to me, “You are my son;(BI)
    today I have become your father.(BJ)
Ask me,
    and I will make the nations(BK) your inheritance,(BL)
    the ends of the earth(BM) your possession.
You will break them with a rod of iron[c];(BN)
    you will dash them to pieces(BO) like pottery.(BP)

10 Therefore, you kings, be wise;(BQ)
    be warned, you rulers(BR) of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear(BS)
    and celebrate his rule(BT) with trembling.(BU)
12 Kiss his son,(BV) or he will be angry
    and your way will lead to your destruction,
for his wrath(BW) can flare up in a moment.
    Blessed(BX) are all who take refuge(BY) in him.

Psalm 3[d]

A psalm of David. When he fled from his son Absalom.(BZ)

Lord, how many are my foes!
    How many rise up against me!

    “God will not deliver him.(CA)[e]

But you, Lord, are a shield(CB) around me,
    my glory, the One who lifts my head high.(CC)
I call out to the Lord,(CD)
    and he answers me from his holy mountain.(CE)

I lie down and sleep;(CF)
    I wake again,(CG) because the Lord sustains me.
I will not fear(CH) though tens of thousands
    assail me on every side.(CI)

Arise,(CJ) Lord!
    Deliver me,(CK) my God!
Strike(CL) all my enemies on the jaw;
    break the teeth(CM) of the wicked.

From the Lord comes deliverance.(CN)
    May your blessing(CO) be on your people.

Psalm 4[f]

How long will you people turn my glory(CT) into shame?(CU)
    How long will you love delusions and seek false gods[g]?[h](CV)
Know that the Lord has set apart his faithful servant(CW) for himself;
    the Lord hears(CX) when I call to him.

Tremble and[i] do not sin;(CY)
    when you are on your beds,(CZ)
    search your hearts and be silent.
Offer the sacrifices of the righteous
    and trust in the Lord.(DA)

Many, Lord, are asking, “Who will bring us prosperity?”
    Let the light of your face shine on us.(DB)
Fill my heart(DC) with joy(DD)

In peace(DF) I will lie down and sleep,(DG)
    for you alone, Lord,
    make me dwell in safety.(DH)

    my King and my God,(DL)
    for to you I pray.

In the morning,(DM) Lord, you hear my voice;
    in the morning I lay my requests before you
    and wait expectantly.(DN)
For you are not a God who is pleased with wickedness;
    with you, evil people(DO) are not welcome.
The arrogant(DP) cannot stand(DQ)
    in your presence.
You hate(DR) all who do wrong;
    you destroy those who tell lies.(DS)
The bloodthirsty and deceitful
    you, Lord, detest.
But I, by your great love,
    can come into your house;
in reverence(DT) I bow down(DU)
    toward your holy temple.(DV)

Lead me, Lord, in your righteousness(DW)
    because of my enemies—
    make your way straight(DX) before me.
Not a word from their mouth can be trusted;
    their heart is filled with malice.
Their throat is an open grave;(DY)
    with their tongues they tell lies.(DZ)
10 Declare them guilty, O God!
    Let their intrigues be their downfall.
Banish them for their many sins,(EA)
    for they have rebelled(EB) against you.
11 But let all who take refuge in you be glad;
    let them ever sing for joy.(EC)
Spread your protection over them,
    that those who love your name(ED) may rejoice in you.(EE)

12 Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous;(EF)
    you surround them(EG) with your favor as with a shield.(EH)

All night long I flood my bed with weeping(EU)
    and drench my couch with tears.(EV)
My eyes grow weak(EW) with sorrow;
    they fail because of all my foes.

Away from me,(EX) all you who do evil,(EY)
    for the Lord has heard my weeping.
The Lord has heard my cry for mercy;(EZ)
    the Lord accepts my prayer.
10 All my enemies will be overwhelmed with shame and anguish;(FA)
    they will turn back and suddenly be put to shame.(FB)

A shiggaion[n](FC) of David, which he sang to the Lord concerning Cush, a Benjamite.

Lord my God, I take refuge(FD) in you;
    save and deliver me(FE) from all who pursue me,(FF)
or they will tear me apart like a lion(FG)
    and rip me to pieces with no one to rescue(FH) me.

Lord my God, if I have done this
    and there is guilt on my hands(FI)
if I have repaid my ally with evil
    or without cause(FJ) have robbed my foe—
then let my enemy pursue and overtake(FK) me;
    let him trample my life to the ground(FL)
    and make me sleep in the dust.[o](FM)

Arise,(FN) Lord, in your anger;
    rise up against the rage of my enemies.(FO)
    Awake,(FP) my God; decree justice.
Let the assembled peoples gather around you,
    while you sit enthroned over them on high.(FQ)
    Let the Lord judge(FR) the peoples.
Vindicate me, Lord, according to my righteousness,(FS)

    who saves the upright in heart.(FZ)
11 God is a righteous judge,(GA)
    a God who displays his wrath(GB) every day.
12 If he does not relent,(GC)

13 He has prepared his deadly weapons;
    he makes ready his flaming arrows.(GF)

14 Whoever is pregnant with evil
    conceives trouble and gives birth(GG) to disillusionment.
15 Whoever digs a hole and scoops it out
    falls into the pit(GH) they have made.(GI)

    I will sing the praises(GK) of the name of the Lord Most High.(GL)

Psalm 8[r]

Lord, our Lord,
    how majestic is your name(GM) in all the earth!

You have set your glory(GN)
    in the heavens.(GO)
Through the praise of children and infants
    you have established a stronghold(GP) against your enemies,
    to silence the foe(GQ) and the avenger.
When I consider your heavens,(GR)
    the work of your fingers,(GS)
the moon and the stars,(GT)
    which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
    human beings that you care for them?[t](GU)

You have made them[u] a little lower than the angels[v](GV)
    and crowned them[w] with glory and honor.(GW)
You made them rulers(GX) over the works of your hands;(GY)
    you put everything under their[x] feet:(GZ)
all flocks and herds,(HA)
    and the animals of the wild,(HB)

    and the fish in the sea,(HC)

    how majestic is your name in all the earth!(HD)

    I will sing the praises(HH) of your name,(HI) O Most High.

My enemies turn back;
    they stumble and perish before you.
For you have upheld my right(HJ) and my cause,(HK)
    sitting enthroned(HL) as the righteous judge.(HM)
You have rebuked the nations(HN) and destroyed the wicked;
    you have blotted out their name(HO) for ever and ever.
Endless ruin has overtaken my enemies,
    you have uprooted their cities;(HP)
    even the memory of them(HQ) has perished.

The Lord reigns forever;(HR)
    he has established his throne(HS) for judgment.

11 Sing the praises(IB) of the Lord, enthroned in Zion;(IC)

13 Lord, see how my enemies(IH) persecute me!
    Have mercy(II) and lift me up from the gates of death,(IJ)
14 that I may declare your praises(IK)
    in the gates of Daughter Zion,(IL)
    and there rejoice in your salvation.(IM)

15 The nations have fallen into the pit they have dug;(IN)

He boasts(JC) about the cravings of his heart;
    he blesses the greedy and reviles the Lord.(JD)
In his pride the wicked man does not seek him;
    in all his thoughts there is no room for God.(JE)
His ways are always prosperous;
    your laws are rejected by[ac] him;

    He swears, “No one will ever do me harm.”(JF)

His mouth is full(JG) of lies and threats;(JH)
    trouble and evil are under his tongue.(JI)

    like a lion in cover he lies in wait.
He lies in wait to catch the helpless;(JL)
    he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.(JM)
10 His victims are crushed,(JN) they collapse;
    they fall under his strength.

    he covers his face and never sees.”(JP)

12 Arise,(JQ) Lord! Lift up your hand,(JR) O God.
    Do not forget the helpless.(JS)
13 Why does the wicked man revile God?(JT)
    Why does he say to himself,
    “He won’t call me to account”?(JU)
14 But you, God, see the trouble(JV) of the afflicted;
    you consider their grief and take it in hand.
The victims commit themselves to you;(JW)
    you are the helper(JX) of the fatherless.
15 Break the arm of the wicked man;(JY)
    call the evildoer to account for his wickedness

    they set their arrows(KJ) against the strings
to shoot from the shadows(KK)
    at the upright in heart.(KL)

The Lord is in his holy temple;(KN)
    the Lord is on his heavenly throne.(KO)

    his eyes examine(KQ) them.
The Lord examines the righteous,(KR)
    but the wicked, those who love violence,

    but harbor deception in their hearts.(LB)

May the Lord silence all flattering lips(LC)
    and every boastful tongue—(LD)
those who say,
    “By our tongues we will prevail;(LE)
    our own lips will defend us—who is lord over us?”

“Because the poor are plundered(LF) and the needy groan,(LG)
    I will now arise,(LH)” says the Lord.
    “I will protect them(LI) from those who malign them.”
And the words of the Lord are flawless,(LJ)
    like silver purified(LK) in a crucible,(LL)
    like gold[af] refined seven times.

You, Lord, will keep the needy safe(LM)
    and will protect us forever from the wicked,(LN)
who freely strut(LO) about
    when what is vile is honored by the human race.

Psalm 13[ag]

    How long will my enemy triumph over me?(LT)

Look on me(LU) and answer,(LV) Lord my God.
    Give light to my eyes,(LW) or I will sleep in death,(LX)
and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,(LY)
    and my foes will rejoice when I fall.(LZ)

The fool[ah] says in his heart,

All have turned away,(MI) all have become corrupt;(MJ)
    there is no one who does good,(MK)
    not even one.(ML)

Do all these evildoers know nothing?(MM)

They devour my people(MN) as though eating bread;
    they never call on the Lord.(MO)
But there they are, overwhelmed with dread,
    for God is present in the company of the righteous.
You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor,
    but the Lord is their refuge.(MP)

Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!(MQ)
    When the Lord restores(MR) his people,
    let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!

    who does what is righteous,
    who speaks the truth(MW) from their heart;
whose tongue utters no slander,(MX)
    who does no wrong to a neighbor,
    and casts no slur on others;
who despises a vile person
    but honors(MY) those who fear the Lord;
who keeps an oath(MZ) even when it hurts,
    and does not change their mind;
who lends money to the poor without interest;(NA)
    who does not accept a bribe(NB) against the innocent.

Whoever does these things
    will never be shaken.(NC)

Psalm 16

A miktam[ai] of David.

Keep me safe,(ND) my God,
    for in you I take refuge.(NE)

I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;(NF)
    apart from you I have no good thing.”(NG)
I say of the holy people(NH) who are in the land,(NI)
    “They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight.”
Those who run after other gods(NJ) will suffer(NK) more and more.
    I will not pour out libations of blood to such gods
    or take up their names(NL) on my lips.

Lord, you alone are my portion(NM) and my cup;(NN)
    you make my lot(NO) secure.
The boundary lines(NP) have fallen for me in pleasant places;
    surely I have a delightful inheritance.(NQ)
I will praise the Lord, who counsels me;(NR)
    even at night(NS) my heart instructs me.
I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
    With him at my right hand,(NT) I will not be shaken.(NU)

Therefore my heart is glad(NV) and my tongue rejoices;

    may your eyes see what is right.(OJ)

Though you probe my heart,(OK)
    though you examine me at night and test me,(OL)
you will find that I have planned no evil;(OM)
    my mouth has not transgressed.(ON)
Though people tried to bribe me,
    I have kept myself from the ways of the violent
    through what your lips have commanded.
My steps have held to your paths;(OO)
    my feet have not stumbled.(OP)

I call on you, my God, for you will answer me;(OQ)
    turn your ear to me(OR) and hear my prayer.(OS)

14 By your hand save me from such people, Lord,
    from those of this world(PI) whose reward is in this life.(PJ)

    when I awake,(PL) I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.(PM)

In my distress(QA) I called to the Lord;(QB)
    I cried to my God for help.

    with hailstones(QT) and bolts of lightning.(QU)
13 The Lord thundered(QV) from heaven;
    the voice of the Most High resounded.[an]
14 He shot his arrows(QW) and scattered the enemy,
    with great bolts of lightning(QX) he routed them.(QY)

    I have not turned away from his decrees.
23 I have been blameless(RP) before him
    and have kept myself from sin.
24 The Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness,(RQ)
    according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.

25 To the faithful(RR) you show yourself faithful,(RS)
    to the blameless you show yourself blameless,
26 to the pure(RT) you show yourself pure,
    but to the devious you show yourself shrewd.(RU)
27 You save the humble(RV)
    but bring low those whose eyes are haughty.(RW)
28 You, Lord, keep my lamp(RX) burning;
    my God turns my darkness into light.(RY)
29 With your help(RZ) I can advance against a troop[ao];
    with my God I can scale a wall.

30 As for God, his way is perfect:(SA)
    The Lord’s word is flawless;(SB)
    he shields(SC) all who take refuge(SD) in him.
31 For who is God besides the Lord?(SE)
    And who is the Rock(SF) except our God?
32 It is God who arms me with strength(SG)
    and keeps my way secure.(SH)
33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer;(SI)
    he causes me to stand on the heights.(SJ)
34 He trains my hands for battle;(SK)
    my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
35 You make your saving help my shield,
    and your right hand sustains(SL) me;
    your help has made me great.
36 You provide a broad path(SM) for my feet,
    so that my ankles do not give way.(SN)

37 I pursued my enemies(SO) and overtook them;
    I did not turn back till they were destroyed.
38 I crushed them(SP) so that they could not rise;(SQ)
    they fell beneath my feet.(SR)
39 You armed me with strength(SS) for battle;
    you humbled my adversaries(ST) before me.
40 You made my enemies turn their backs(SU) in flight,
    and I destroyed(SV) my foes.
41 They cried for help, but there was no one to save them(SW)
    to the Lord, but he did not answer.(SX)
42 I beat them as fine as windblown dust;(SY)
    I trampled them[ap] like mud in the streets.
43 You have delivered me from the attacks of the people;
    you have made me the head of nations.(SZ)
People I did not know(TA) now serve me,
44     foreigners(TB) cower before me;
    as soon as they hear of me, they obey me.
45 They all lose heart;(TC)
    they come trembling(TD) from their strongholds.(TE)

46 The Lord lives!(TF) Praise be to my Rock!(TG)
    Exalted be God(TH) my Savior!(TI)
47 He is the God who avenges(TJ) me,
    who subdues nations(TK) under me,
48     who saves(TL) me from my enemies.(TM)
You exalted me above my foes;
    from a violent man(TN) you rescued me.
49 Therefore I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;(TO)
    I will sing(TP) the praises of your name.(TQ)

50 He gives his king great victories;
    he shows unfailing love to his anointed,(TR)
    to David(TS) and to his descendants forever.(TT)

Psalm 19[aq]

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

The heavens(TU) declare(TV) the glory of God;(TW)
    the skies(TX) proclaim the work of his hands.(TY)
Day after day they pour forth speech;
    night after night they reveal knowledge.(TZ)
They have no speech, they use no words;
    no sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice[ar] goes out into all the earth,
    their words to the ends of the world.(UA)
In the heavens God has pitched a tent(UB) for the sun.(UC)
    It is like a bridegroom(UD) coming out of his chamber,(UE)
    like a champion(UF) rejoicing to run his course.
It rises at one end of the heavens(UG)
    and makes its circuit to the other;(UH)
    nothing is deprived of its warmth.

The law of the Lord(UI) is perfect,(UJ)
    refreshing the soul.(UK)
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,(UL)
    making wise the simple.(UM)
The precepts of the Lord are right,(UN)
    giving joy(UO) to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,
    giving light to the eyes.(UP)
The fear of the Lord(UQ) is pure,
    enduring forever.
The decrees of the Lord are firm,
    and all of them are righteous.(UR)

10 They are more precious than gold,(US)
    than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,(UT)
    than honey from the honeycomb.(UU)
11 By them your servant is warned;
    in keeping them there is great reward.
12 But who can discern their own errors?
    Forgive my hidden faults.(UV)
13 Keep your servant also from willful sins;(UW)
    may they not rule over me.(UX)
Then I will be blameless,(UY)
    innocent of great transgression.

14 May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
    be pleasing(UZ) in your sight,
    Lord, my Rock(VA) and my Redeemer.(VB)

Psalm 20[as]

May the Lord answer you when you are in distress;(VC)
    may the name of the God of Jacob(VD) protect you.(VE)
May he send you help(VF) from the sanctuary(VG)
    and grant you support(VH) from Zion.(VI)
May he remember(VJ) all your sacrifices
    and accept your burnt offerings.[at](VK)
May he give you the desire of your heart(VL)
    and make all your plans succeed.(VM)
May we shout for joy(VN) over your victory
    and lift up our banners(VO) in the name of our God.

May the Lord grant all your requests.(VP)

Now this I know:
    The Lord gives victory to his anointed.(VQ)
He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary
    with the victorious power of his right hand.(VR)
Some trust in chariots(VS) and some in horses,(VT)
    but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.(VU)
They are brought to their knees and fall,(VV)
    but we rise up(VW) and stand firm.(VX)
Lord, give victory to the king!
    Answer us(VY) when we call!

You came to greet him with rich blessings
    and placed a crown of pure gold(WC) on his head.(WD)
He asked you for life, and you gave it to him—
    length of days, for ever and ever.(WE)
Through the victories(WF) you gave, his glory is great;
    you have bestowed on him splendor and majesty.(WG)
Surely you have granted him unending blessings
    and made him glad with the joy(WH) of your presence.(WI)
For the king trusts in the Lord;(WJ)
    through the unfailing love(WK) of the Most High(WL)
    he will not be shaken.(WM)

Your hand will lay hold(WN) on all your enemies;
    your right hand will seize your foes.
When you appear for battle,
    you will burn them up as in a blazing furnace.
The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath,
    and his fire will consume them.(WO)
10 You will destroy their descendants from the earth,
    their posterity from mankind.(WP)
11 Though they plot evil(WQ) against you
    and devise wicked schemes,(WR) they cannot succeed.
12 You will make them turn their backs(WS)
    when you aim at them with drawn bow.

13 Be exalted(WT) in your strength, Lord;(WU)
    we will sing and praise your might.

Psalm 22[aw]

For the director of music. To the tune of “The Doe of the Morning.” A psalm of David.

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?(WV)
    Why are you so far(WW) from saving me,
    so far from my cries of anguish?(WX)
My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer,(WY)
    by night,(WZ) but I find no rest.[ax]

Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One;(XA)
    you are the one Israel praises.[ay](XB)
In you our ancestors put their trust;
    they trusted and you delivered them.(XC)
To you they cried out(XD) and were saved;
    in you they trusted(XE) and were not put to shame.(XF)

But I am a worm(XG) and not a man,
    scorned by everyone,(XH) despised(XI) by the people.
All who see me mock me;(XJ)
    they hurl insults,(XK) shaking their heads.(XL)
“He trusts in the Lord,” they say,
    “let the Lord rescue him.(XM)
Let him deliver him,(XN)
    since he delights(XO) in him.”

Yet you brought me out of the womb;(XP)
    you made me trust(XQ) in you, even at my mother’s breast.
10 From birth(XR) I was cast on you;
    from my mother’s womb you have been my God.

11 Do not be far from me,(XS)
    for trouble is near(XT)
    and there is no one to help.(XU)

12 Many bulls(XV) surround me;(XW)
    strong bulls of Bashan(XX) encircle me.
13 Roaring lions(XY) that tear their prey(XZ)
    open their mouths wide(YA) against me.
14 I am poured out like water,
    and all my bones are out of joint.(YB)
My heart has turned to wax;(YC)
    it has melted(YD) within me.
15 My mouth[az] is dried up like a potsherd,(YE)
    and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth;(YF)
    you lay me in the dust(YG) of death.

16 Dogs(YH) surround me,
    a pack of villains encircles me;
    they pierce[ba](YI) my hands and my feet.
17 All my bones are on display;
    people stare(YJ) and gloat over me.(YK)
18 They divide my clothes among them
    and cast lots(YL) for my garment.(YM)

19 But you, Lord, do not be far from me.(YN)
    You are my strength;(YO) come quickly(YP) to help me.(YQ)
20 Deliver me from the sword,(YR)
    my precious life(YS) from the power of the dogs.(YT)
21 Rescue me from the mouth of the lions;(YU)
    save me from the horns of the wild oxen.(YV)

22 I will declare your name to my people;
    in the assembly(YW) I will praise you.(YX)
23 You who fear the Lord, praise him!(YY)
    All you descendants of Jacob, honor him!(YZ)
    Revere him,(ZA) all you descendants of Israel!
24 For he has not despised(ZB) or scorned
    the suffering of the afflicted one;(ZC)
he has not hidden his face(ZD) from him
    but has listened to his cry for help.(ZE)

25 From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly;(ZF)
    before those who fear you[bb] I will fulfill my vows.(ZG)
26 The poor will eat(ZH) and be satisfied;

    future generations(ZR) will be told about the Lord.

    declaring to a people yet unborn:(ZT)
    He has done it!(ZU)

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd,(ZV) I lack nothing.(ZW)
    He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,(ZX)
    he refreshes my soul.(ZY)
He guides me(ZZ) along the right paths(AAA)
    for his name’s sake.(AAB)
Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,[bc](AAC)
I will fear no evil,(AAD)
    for you are with me;(AAE)
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

You prepare a table(AAF) before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;(AAG)
    my cup(AAH) overflows.
Surely your goodness and love(AAI) will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.

Psalm 24

Of David. A psalm.

The earth is the Lord’s,(AAJ) and everything in it,
    the world, and all who live in it;(AAK)

Who may ascend the mountain(AAM) of the Lord?
    Who may stand in his holy place?(AAN)
The one who has clean hands(AAO) and a pure heart,(AAP)
    who does not trust in an idol(AAQ)
    or swear by a false god.[bd]

They will receive blessing(AAR) from the Lord
    and vindication(AAS) from God their Savior.
Such is the generation of those who seek him,
    who seek your face,(AAT) God of Jacob.[be][bf]

Lift up your heads, you gates;(AAU)
    be lifted up, you ancient doors,
    that the King(AAV) of glory(AAW) may come in.(AAX)
Who is this King of glory?
    The Lord strong and mighty,(AAY)
    the Lord mighty in battle.(AAZ)
Lift up your heads, you gates;
    lift them up, you ancient doors,
    that the King of glory may come in.
10 Who is he, this King of glory?
    The Lord Almighty(ABA)
    he is the King of glory.
