1. Faithfulness in worship (19:1-8)

Holiness in worship is characterized by single-minded devotion to God. The Israelites are not to turn to other gods or to make graven images (v.4). Moreover, they are to follow the regulations for worship (vv.5-8) that God has prescribed. The natural order, created by God, reflects his holiness. The Israelites are not to confuse God’s ordering of nature by sowing a field with different kinds of seeds, making cloth out of different kinds of material, or mating different kinds of animals (v.19). Neither are they to mar the bodies God has given them by tatooing or cutting themselves (vv.27-28).
