1. Interlude of sealing the saints (7:1-8)

The sealing of the saints identifies God’s people and protects them from judgment (also, 9:4; 14:1; 22:4). In contrast, the followers of the Beast are marked with a seal classifying them as opponents of God (13:16; 14:9; 16:2; 19:20; 20:4). The 144,000 symbolize a faithful spiritual Israel as in 14:1-5. The number is a sign of completeness.
