1. Pilate’s interrogation (15:1-5)

As Jesus had prophesied (10:33-34), the Sanhedrin now hands him over to the Roman court. The charges against Jesus have a decidedly political ring, and he is questioned as a pretender to the throne. His silence identifies him with the Suffering Servant of Isa 53:7 and suggests his readiness to undergo suffering as a part of God’s plan. The parallel between these verses and 13:9 is remarkable: Jesus is the first in a long line of those who would suffer unjust accusations and be brought to trial for the sake of the Gospel.
