1. The second Passion prediction (9:30-32)

For the second time, Jesus plainly predicts his death, and for the second time, his disciples fail to understand. A new clause is introduced here: the Son of Man “is going to be handed over into the hands of men.” This “divine passive” signifies God’s instrumentality in Jesus' death; the Cross is at the center of God’s plan for redemption.
