The listing of laws and punishments is interrupted with the reminder that it is God himself who makes one holy. Emphasis on holy living is always in danger of lapsing into legalism. No better prevention for this illness is available than the constant reminder that holiness derives from God himself and not from law-keeping as an end in itself.
