2. Jesus' walk on the lake (6:16-24)

As in the Synoptic accounts (Mt 14:22-33; Mk 6:47-51), the miraculous feeding is followed by a miraculous walk by Jesus on a stormy Galilee. That the boat reached the safety of its destination as soon as Jesus was in it (v.21) recalls the cessation of the storm in the story as told by Matthew and Mark. The crowd, uncertain of Jesus' movements, still sought him (vv.22-24; cf. v.2).
