This report agrees essentially with the story in 2Ki 21:19-26. Amon was a wicked ruler. Due to the chronicler’s unique perspective on Manasseh, however, he includes a note to distinguish Amon from his pious father (v.23). Amon’s renewed apostasy sets the stage for Josiah’s reformation. Amon’s officials assassinate him. The monarch’s wickedness brought personal loss and political intrigue to the land.
