3. Autobiographical notices continued (7:5-16)

Here Paul resumes and concludes the autobiographical notices begun in 1:8-2:13 concerning the intense anxiety he experienced in Asia. The Corinthians must have known most of the events he reported in the earlier notices. The new information Paul provides consists only of his emotional reaction to these events. The present section contains mostly new information, offering four reasons why Paul was overjoyed (7:4): (1) Titus’s successful mission to Corinth (vv.5-7); (2) the Corinthians' repentance (vv.8-13a); (3) Titus’s response (vv.13b-15); and (4) Paul’s confidence (v.16).
