3. The descendants of Cain (4:17-24)

The path of disobedience continues to be traced through the line of Cain and particularly in the song of Lamech (vv.23-24), where man now asserts the right to take vengeance and hence further challenges the rule of God. Creation is set on a course of disintegration through the family of Cain evident in an explosion of sin.
