4. The plot against Paul (23:11-22)

As in 18:9; 22:18; 27:23-24, Paul’s life of deep obedience makes him available for direct revelation from God (23:11). Such revelations, however, then require absolute trust in God during subsequent situations that appear to nullify the promises. Yet God provides in the midst of such situations. How else did Paul’s nephew get wind of the plot?

Such a plot would not have been unusual among the radical religious fanatics such as the Zealots and Sicarii. Like the early Paul (Saul), they would go to any lengths to remove supposed causes of apostasy from among God’s people.
