The chronicler summarizes the middle portion of his genealogical table with the statement that all Israel was listed in the royal record. He next lists returnees from exile. This verse is a summary of the preceding chapters and should not be split in half as in the NIV. The middle genealogies end with the captivity and the reason for God’s judgment. The people were unfaithful. This same term, m'l, describes the reason for Saul’s downfall (1Ch 10:13) and the eventual destruction of the southern kingdom (2Ch 26:16).
