Jehoram illustrates that faithlessness leads to ruin. He comes to power smoothly, but in contrast to the pious activities of good kings such as David and Solomon, his reign is completely evil. Jehoram kills all rivals for the throne, marries Ahab’s daughter, and leads the nation in following the wicked ways of the North.

God demonstrates his grace by bringing political problems, but not complete destruction, to David’s kingdom. Edom and Libnah rebel. The chronicler connects the nation’s distress to Jehoram’s refusal to obey the Lord. Jehoram rebuilds the destroyed high places and leads the people astray.
