The brief introduction in vv.44-49 goes with the following material in chs. 5ff. The Torah (1:5) that Moses began to expound is further explained and preached (4:44). It consists, as already noted earlier, of the stipulations ('ēd̠ôt̠), decrees (ḥuqqîm), and laws (mispat̠im) spoken to Israel by Moses when they left Egypt (4:45). There is no other law in heaven or under the earth for which to search.
