A. The Entry Into Jerusalem (11:1-11)

Bartimaeus anticipated the messianic, royal image of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem when he referred to Jesus as the “Son of David” (10:47-48). The colt (Ge 49:11; Zec 9:9), the spreading of garments and branches (2Ki 9:13), the petition for salvation (Ps 118:25-26)—these details and more portray Jesus as the Bearer of the kingdom. What sort of ruler is this? The Bartimaeus episode depicts Jesus as the one who rules with compassion.
