B. Guard the Faith (4:14-15)

This Alexander cannot be identified clearly with any other NT reference (see Mk 15:21; Ac 19:33-34; 1Ti 1:20). Regardless, Paul’s attitude toward him is instructive: evil is not to be repaid with evil; the Lord will avenge (see Ps 62:12; Ro 12:17). This is not license for passivity or foolishness, since Timothy is to be on guard.
