B. The Bride’s Dream (3:1-5)

The dream described may be one that occurred on more than one night while the bride was separated from her lover. When she becomes uneasy, she rises from her bed and asks city watchmen whether they have seen her lover. Just then the lover appears, and she conducts him to her room. A repeated reference to the daughters of Jerusalem throughout the book (cf. 2:7; 3:5, 10-11; 5:8, 16; 8:4) not only suggests the unity of the book, but also indicates that they gave the bride tidbits of friendly advice from time to time (cf. 1:4b; 5:1c, 9; 6:1, 13a; 8:5a, 8-9).
