C. Applied in Lifestyle (3:1-2)

As in the discussion on slaves in 2:9-10, Paul stresses subjection and obedience regardless of who the ruler is. Our highest allegiance is to God (cf. Ac 4:18-20), but we must remember that the Bible teaches us to pray for our rulers and not overthrow them. The kingdom of God is internal but is reflected externally in doing whatever is good, such as refraining from slander, promoting peace, and showing humility. Humility is a mindset that results from acknowledging God’s grace to me, which enables me to see myself and others with gentle understanding.
