c. Azariah’s sermon (15:1-7)

Azariah encourages the nation to continue in faithfulness to the Lord because of the conditional nature of their relationship. God grants the nation its desire. If they seek God, he will bless them; if they abandon him, he will leave them alone. Azariah illustrates his sermon with a story from the nation’s distant past. When they first sought God, apparently in the tumultuous days of the judges, he helped them. This early trust is exemplary for a king in the early divided monarchy, for the postexilic community, or for any generation of God’s people.
