C. The Jews and the Law (2:17-29)

The Jews boast in their possession of the law. Yet they do not observe the law and thus dishonor God (vv.17-24). They are proud of their circumcision. But circumcision is meaningful only if they observe the law. The uncircumcised gentile Christians who obey the law (8:3-4) will condemn the circumcised Jews who do not obey the law (vv.25-27). In God’s sight true Jew and true circumcision are inward realities, not outward signs (vv.28-29).
