c. The Resurrection hope (4:16b-5:10)

Paul characterizes the Resurrection hope, which sustains him despite his present suffering (see 4:14), by appeal to the metaphors of a tent and clothing (5:1-5). His present afflictions are slight and temporary in contrast to the future, substantial, eternal glory that will be his. This hope provides the basis for his personal confidence (4:16b-18) and motivates his circumspect conduct (5:6-10). Both 5:1-5 and 5:6-10 have an almost confessional character (we know, 5:1, 6).
