C. The Transfiguration of Jesus (9:2-13)

Mark’s recounting of this episode contrasts God’s open revelation of Jesus' significance with the disciples' continuing incomprehension. Jesus' appearance and God’s acclamation of him as Son and the prophet like Moses (Listen to him! [see Dt 18:15]) confirm the truth of Jesus' earlier talk of suffering and vindication. They also give the disciples a foretaste of the coming glory. The reaction of the disciples (9:5-6) betrays their lack of understanding.
