C. The Vision of Destruction Will Not Be Delayed (12:21-28)

The continuing tension between the message of the true prophet and that of the false prophet is illustrated by the two proverbs quoted in this section. First, the false prophet played down the warnings of the true prophet by saying, “The days go by and every vision comes to nothing” (v.22). The second proverb was similar: “The vision he sees is for many years from now, and he prophesies about the distant future” (v.27). In other words, the false prophet said what the people wanted to hear: “Don't worry about it—nothing is going to happen soon!” God’s words have a disgusted ring to them when he says, “None of my words will be delayed any longer; whatever I say will be fulfilled” (v.28).
