D. Malta to Rome (28:11-16)

After winter Paul and his party sail on another Alexandrian grain ship that had wintered in Malta (v.11). They make their way from Malta to Syracuse on Sicily, to Rhegium on the toe of Italy, and finally to Puteoli on the bay of Naples across from Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. A sizable Jewish community lived in Puteoli, which, presumably, was home for the Christian brothers whom Paul meets (vv.11-14). Apparently word was sent from Puteoli to Rome about Paul’s arrival, and Christians from Rome come to meet Paul and escort him to the city where he is kept under some form of house arrest (v.15).
