D. Second Prayer (3:5)

Paul knows that they will require the help of God to do the things he commands (3:4). His prayer is that the Lord himself will direct them into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance, that is, taking Christ’s example of perseverance, or, perhaps, receiving the steadfastness that Christ imparts.
