E. Consequences of God’s Judgment Discussed (5:5-17)

Having finished his silent acted parables, Ezekiel spoke to the people, describing God’s judgment. Judgment is coming to Israel, said God, because “she has rejected my laws and has not followed my decrees” (v.6). The judgment bites even deeper because Israel had not even conformed to the standards of the nations around [her] (v.7). Because she did not live up to her chosenness and privileges, Israel would suffer all the more severely. Israel finally discovered, but too late, that being chosen by God would not protect her from his judgment, a lesson for any nation in any generation.
