Solomon rebuilt cities acquired from Hiram or captured in war. He conscripted resident aliens as a labor force and drafted Israelites into military service. Solomon made a marriage alliance with Egypt and prepared a house for Pharaoh’s daughter separate from buildings connected with the Lord. Solomon was faithful to his religious responsibilities. He offered the required sacrifices and appointed priests and Levites to their tasks. The chronicler closes this section by noting that the temple was now completely finished. The chronicler does not describe Solomon’s apostasy in following the deities of his foreign wives (1Ki 11).
