H. The Centurion’s Servant and the Widow’s Son (7:1-17)

The centurion’s servant, like the paralyzed man, was healed in response to someone else’s faith (vv.1-10), in this case the faith of the gentile centurion. Not only did Jesus heal the sick; he also raised the dead (vv.11-17). Just as Elijah had restored the life of a widow’s son (1Ki 17:17-24), so Jesus gave life to the son of the widow at Nain. Luke emphasizes Jesus' compassion: His heart went out to the woman who had lost her son.
