I. Author And Date

Dating Jude depends on identifying the author. Richard Bauckham, Duane Thompson, and Delbert Rose have argued that Jude was the brother of James and Jesus (Mk 6:3). J.N.D. Kelly disputes that claim. The opponents of Jude, however, are similar to the incipient gnostics Paul addressed in the a.d. 50s in 1 Corinthians, as Thompson and Rose acknowledge. Jude can be dated early enough to allow authorship by the brother of James and Jesus.
