I. Authorship and Dating

Until the nineteenth century it was commonly assumed that Titus was written by the apostle Paul. Since that time some scholars have questioned the chronology, theology, ecclesiology, and vocabulary. For a brief discussion of these areas, see Pastoral Epistles: Introduction and 1 Timothy—Introduction: Authorship and Dating.

There is no compelling reason to accept non-Pauline authorship. The teaching and tone are consistent with Paul’s other writings. Titus was probably written between a.d. 62-66 from some place in Greece, possibly Corinth.
