I. Greeting (Vv.1-2)

Jude identifies himself as a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James. Jude does not call himself an apostle.

The author addresses the readers generally as loved, called, and kept. Two features imply Jude was sent to a specific people. “Loved” and “dear” (vv.1, 3, 17, 20) denote a close, even affectionate, relationship. “Kept” and the imperative “keep” in v.21 signify a desire to preserve the readers from the doctrinal and moral threats Jude graphically describes.
