I. More Judgment Against Jerusalem (22:1-31)

It is only a short step from the content of this chapter to the content of our evening television newscast or newspaper, so modern and up-to-date is this list of Israel’s sins. Indeed, many of these sins take place daily on our own streets. Some of them may have slightly different names, but most of them are all too obvious and recognizable. Well, so what? Just this: How can we as communities and nations think we can avoid the same judgment and fate as that which God announced in this chapter and then brought to pass through the destruction by Nebuchadnezzar? Who among us is willing to “stand before [God] in the gap on behalf of the land so [God] would not have to destroy it” (v.30)?
