I. Title, Content, Canonical Placement

The title is the same as the name of the main character of the book, Daniel.

Six stories make up the first six chapters. See the outline for titles of each story. The other chapters preserve Daniel’s visions of wild animals that represented present and future kingdoms, as well as visions of future events and the time of the end. These visions are explained by angels. Ch. 9 has an agonizing prayer offered by Daniel to God.

Regularly in the Hebrew Bible, Daniel appears between Esther and Ezra-Nehemiah. The Septuagint places Daniel after Ezekiel and before I Maccabees, with additions attached. Protestant English translations place Daniel after Ezekiel and before Hosea.
